Patient XY 1976/77, Oil on canvas, 103 × 83 cm
The painting depicts a surreal scene in which organic and technical elements intertwine. The central figure bears the features of medical-technical apparatus: protective shield, mask, and surgical instruments merge with the body. Opposite are deformed figures that are somewhere between flesh, doll, and prosthesis. The composition appears like an absurd laboratory in which the boundary between patient and machine, between healing and manipulation, becomes blurred.
