The “Preserved Nature Circle” (2008, natural objects in resin, diameter 140 cm) is a sculptural condensation of organic found objects, fixed within a closed ring of transparent resin. Shells, snail shells, stones, and other natural remnants appear frozen, preserved in an artificial medium that halts their decay while simultaneously highlighting their forms and structures.
The work exists in the space between archaeological relic, relic, and object of natural magic. The circle, as a symbol of eternity and recurrence, is confronted here with the fragility of life. The artificial enclosure reveals an ambivalence: rescue from disappearance—and at the same time, a final fixation that precludes any further development. The “Nature Circle” is thus both meditation and admonition, an allegory for the human need to preserve nature by simultaneously immobilizing it.
