Kammerjäger, 1984

The exterminator here is a metaphor: a hunter in space who does not destroy, but tracks down. His prey are appearances—the fragile transparency of an insect wing, the hardness of a chitin-encased shell, the structures of the seemingly smallest things. He collects where others destroy, and elevates his finds to images of fascination.

The portfolio appears as a cycle of hunting scenes in which the actual desire is not to kill, but to pause, to grasp and preserve the phenomenon. The Husband, The Queen, The Bride reflect human roles in the insect kingdom. Im Netz (In the Net) shows imprisonment in order, while Durchleuchtung (X-ray) shows the scientific view into the hidden. Der Renner (The Runner) and Nachtfalle (Night Trap) deal with hunting, speed, and deception. Witwenzopf (Widow's Braid) finally refers to an object of the same name.

Two embossed prints and eight etchings on zinc (27 × 22 cm) combine natural history precision with poetic composition. Each line is both a study and a metaphor. With a print run of 18–20 copies per sheet, in a portfolio edition of 24 pieces, the cycle remains deliberately exclusive.
